On the morning of this Sunday, February 22, the 9th edition of the Lanzarote Quemao Class has begun. La Santa dawned with the first competitors entering the water to begin defining the qualifiers for this first day.
Among the surfers who stood out this Sunday morning is native of Lanzarote Conor Donegan, who advanced in first place in his first heat of the day. “I felt very good in the water. I am very happy to compete on this wave again, it has been a long time since I rode it. I had a tough heat, but I managed to pass and now, on to the next one,” he commented after leaving the water.
The anticipation is also high among those who will compete for the first time at El Quemao, as is the case of American surfer Balaram Stack, who is on the island for the first time after years of following the event. “I had heard a lot about this wave and I had seen many videos. I had always dreamed of coming here and seeing it in person, it's incredible. It's a beautiful place,” he explained. “After so long, I have finally been able to come and I am very motivated. You see so many good videos that it's hard to imagine what it will be like, but when you're here it's even better. My best routine when competing is getting barrels,” the surfer pointed out.
In bodyboarding, Armides Soliveres advanced in the lead in his first series. “I managed to pass first. Competing in the first heat is always complicated, because you can't see the other competitors and you can't focus on much, but I gave it my all and managed to pass,” highlighted the native of Gran Canaria.
Along with him, standing out on the first day of competition are the Canarians Javier Rojas, David Pérez, and Lionel Medina, who continue to advance in the competition.
The Spanish Alexandra Rinder will also be part of this 9th edition, facing her participation in the event with enthusiasm. “I am very happy to be invited to the Lanzarote Quemao Class this year. It is a classic wave, very powerful, and having more female competitors this year makes me very excited. We are eager to show our level,” affirmed the bodyboarder, who will enter the action in the upcoming series.
The competition continues, with a matchday that has already begun to mark the first proper names of this 9th edition.
