The Copa del Rey Mapfre, one of the most prestigious sailing competitions internationally, celebrated its forty-fourth edition in Palma de Mallorca, and had the participation of a large group of sailors representing the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife. The Lanzaroteans Rayco Tabares, Federico Morales, Héctor González, and Daniel Armas, aboard the Nadir, were proclaimed champions of the 44th Copa del Rey Mapfre in the ClubSwan 42 category.
The Copa del Rey Mapfre once again had broad representation from Lanzarote's sailing community in this edition. In addition to the presence of Rayco Tabares, Federico Morales, Héctor González, and Daniel Armas on the Nadir, Gustavo Martínez, Gonzalo Morales, and Oliver Herrera joined on the Garm, and Ricardo Terrades and Cristian Sánchez participated in the Estrella Damn Sailing Team, both boats in the ORC A class. Furthermore, Luis Jordan “Wiso” was part of the competition's judging panel.
Throughout the week, nine races were held in the Bay of Palma de Mallorca, and from the first day, the Nadir took the lead in the standings, winning the first four races held. Pedro Vaquero's boat consolidated its leadership with a second place and a new partial victory, and finished the competition with three third places. In this way, the Nadir claimed the title of champion of the Copa del Rey Mapfre for the third time.
Rayco Tabares once again served as tactician and project manager aboard the Nadir, and the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife sailor adds his ninth victory in the Copa del Rey, becoming one of the most decorated in the competition. Additionally, the work of Federico Morales, Héctor González, and Daniel Armas throughout the week was also significant, celebrating the conquered title at the conclusion.
