The San Ginés 2026 International Offshore Regatta celebrated a new edition this weekend, with departure on Friday afternoon from the bay of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria and arrival on Saturday in the bay of Arrecife, after completing 115 nautical miles. The oldest offshore regatta at the national level had winds of great intensity on this occasion, which tested the navigation of the boats. The Manitu, skippered by Pedro J. Rodríguez, took the overall victory in the seventy-sixth edition of the San Ginés 2026 International Regatta.
Ten boats, with the fleet divided into two groups, took the start on Friday afternoon from the bay of Las Palmas de Gran Canaria. The wind blew from the north and with an intensity that exceeded 20 knots, conditions that became quite tough throughout the navigation. The Lanzarote Sailing Paradise, skippered by Alejandro Martín, and the Filipeva, with Felipe del Rosario as skipper, took the lead of the fleet in the first miles of navigation.
At 07:20 on Saturday, Antonio “Toy” Hernández's Sorcery was the first boat to reach the finish line located near the Muelle de la Cebolla, in Arrecife. Almost two and a half hours later, the Filipeva arrived, followed by Ignacio Concepción's Fontmar. The rest of the boats completed the 115 nautical miles of the race, and around three in the afternoon, Severiano García's Martinilla did so.
The Manitu took the victory in the LXXVI San Ginés Offshore Regatta, after applying corrected time, and furthermore, the boat skippered by Pedro J. Rodríguez was the winner of the ORC 3-5 class. The second place went to Alejandro Martín's Lanzarote Sailing Paradise, with the first two positions occupied by boats from the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife. And the podium was completed by the third position of the Fontmar from the Real Club Náutico de Tenerife.
In the ORC 0-2 category, the victory went to Lanzarote Sailing Paradise, followed by Fontmar, and in third position was Filipeva from the Real Club Náutico de Gran Canaria. As for the ORC 3-5 category, the podium was completed by the second place of Fabio Valenciano's Renegade and the third position of Francisco Curbelo's Altamar I from the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife.
The César Manrique hall of the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife hosted on Saturday night the awards ceremony and distinctions of the LXXVI San Ginés International Offshore Regatta. The event was attended by the club's president, Julio Romero, who was accompanied by several members of the RCNA Board of Directors. At the conclusion, a buffet dinner was offered for all sailors and companions, and the night ended with the traditional Chalanistas dance.
The RCN de Arrecife presented different awards during the San Ginés International Regatta awards ceremony, an event that was used to present a series of distinctions and highlight the achievements of the winners. Lola Carrión, Yé Cabrera, and the boat Lucero II received recognition from the club.
Lola Carrión has completed a magnificent season, culminating a few weeks ago with fifth place in the Optimist European Championship held in Poland. For her part, Yé Cabrera received the sailing legend award, for a lifetime dedicated to this sport she loves so much.
And finally, the award for sustainability and environmental care was presented to the vessel Lucero II, a boat that freed and saved a turtle during the Roque del Este 2026 Regatta. During the regatta, they spotted a turtle that was entangled with fishing line and plastic bags, and its crew proceeded to rescue it and free it from all the bags, lines, and fishing gear.
The LXXVI San Ginés International Offshore Regatta has been organized by the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife with the collaboration of the Real Club Náutico de Gran Canaria and Calero Marinas SL, by delegation of the Royal Spanish Sailing Federation and the Royal Canary Islands Sailing Federation. It had the support of the Government of the Canary Islands, the Lanzarote Centers for Art, Culture, and Tourism, the Cabildo de Lanzarote, the Insular Sports Service, Turismo Lanzarote, European Sport Destination, Arrecife City Council through the Sports and Tourism departments. And the collaboration of Balearia Canarias, the Spanish Association of Nautical Clubs (AECN), the Canary Islands Association of Nautical Clubs (ACCN), Gran Hotel Arrecife, Renault Lanzarote – Juan Toledo SL.
