The paratriathlete from Lanzarote Lionel Morales has been selected to be part of the Spanish triathlon team for the European Paratriathlon Championship which will take place in Tarragona on June 14, 2026.

This European event marks his competition debut this season and will be a good test to measure the evolution of the athlete from Lanzarote after an intense preseason.

Lionel Morales, the only Canarian triathlete on the national team for the Catalan event, will compete in his PTS2 category, accompanied by coaches Samuel García and Ángel Aguado.

According to Morales, he has trained "to the fullest for the European Championship." He also revealed that for him, "it is an honor to be the only Canarian called up for the European Championship and the only Spaniard in my category."

"I have been training quite hard for a while to try to arrive in the best possible condition for the European Championship, with the Olympic Games in Los Angeles already in mind," he added. "It's the first important test of the year, and let's see how it goes. After the injury, it was difficult for me to recover. I started running on March 18, the day before the World Cup here in Lanzarote. And well, the only thing left for me is to get a little more spark in the race, I still lack high race pace, but hey, I've improved a lot and I'll take that, that I was able to recover from the injury and now to compete on June 14," concludes Lionel Morales.
