The Cabildo of Lanzarote, through SPEL-Turismo Lanzarote and its brand Lanzarote Sports Destination, held the institutional event Linking Surfing Spots on June 5th in Hossegor, France, an initiative developed in collaboration with Lanzarote Quemao Class and Eurosima, a leading European association in the surf industry.

The event took place at the L’Altéa space, in Soorts-Hossegor, one of the most representative European surf destinations, and brought together institutional representatives, companies from the sector, specialized media, athletes, and professionals linked to sports tourism.

The meeting allowed for the presentation of the Lanzarote Quemao Class in a strategic location for international surf culture, reinforcing the positioning of the competition as a unique event within the marine sports calendar, born in Lanzarote and now projected towards international markets and communities.

The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Oswaldo Betancort, highlighted that “Lanzarote Quemao Class is a magnificent example of how an initiative born from the identity of the territory, from a unique wave, and from the passion of Lanzarote’s surf talent, can grow to become an international reference.” In this regard, he stressed that “the good vision, organization, and commitment of those who have promoted this competition have allowed El Quemao to transcend the local and consolidate itself as a symbol of Lanzarote’s capacity to generate sports projects with soul, roots, and external projection.”

Betancort added that “betting on this type of event is also betting on identity, on local talent, and on a way of understanding sport that connects directly with our island, with the sea, and with a surfing community that has placed Lanzarote on the international map.”

For his part, the CEO of SPEL-Turismo Lanzarote, Héctor Fernández, pointed out that this action responds to “a clear external promotion strategy based on diversification, segmentation, and connection with source markets of interest for Lanzarote.” Fernández explained that “it is not just about promoting the destination generically, but about being present in those spaces where communities, professionals, and influencers linked to high-value tourism products, such as sports, surfing, nature, and sea-related experiences, are found.”

In this regard, he defended that “taking Lanzarote Sports Destination and the Lanzarote Quemao Class to Hossegor allows us to dialogue directly with a very relevant European ecosystem for surfing, generate alliances, reinforce reputation, and position the Island before visitor profiles who seek more than sun and beach: they seek territory, authenticity, sport, landscape, and experiences with identity”.

The day began with prior attention to the media and the symbolic signing of a collaboration between Eurosima and Lanzarote Quemao Class, reinforcing the will to generate future lines of cooperation between both territories and their respective sports and business ecosystems.

Subsequently, the central event included the screening of promotional audiovisuals of Lanzarote and Lanzarote Quemao Class, as well as institutional interventions and a round table moderated by Jean Louis Rodrígues, president of Eurosima.

The table included international surfers linked to the event and the territory, including Maxime Castillo, Bastien Bonnarme, and Miky Picon, along with the Lanzarote surfer Makoa Gómez, who shared experiences related to the El Quemao wave, the identity of the event, and the link between Lanzarote and international surf culture.

In addition to the sports and promotional component, “Linking Surfing Spots” incorporated a commitment to the promotion of local products and Lanzarote's gastronomy, ending with a networking space, accompanied by gastronomic tastings that allowed the destination's identity to be conveyed to attendees. The institutional agenda developed during the visit also included meetings with representatives of Eurosima, technical visits to commercial and industrial areas linked to surfing in Hossegor and Capbreton, as well as meetings with industry professionals, with the aim of learning about development models linked to sports tourism and exploring future international collaboration opportunities.

With this initiative, Lanzarote reinforces its presence in strategic European surf markets and consolidates Lanzarote Quemao Class as a tool for external projection capable of uniting sport, territory, identity, industry, sustainability, and specialized tourism promotion.
