The Lanzarote karateka Amelie Skiba from Karate Poliarrecife has taken first place in the 'Kumite U14 Female Open' championship held last Saturday in the city of Basel, Switzerland. In addition, she has also achieved another third place.

An international competition, which had the participation of more than 900 karatekas from 26 countries from three continents, an event that brought together Olympic medalists and world champions, such as the Iranian Sajad Ganjzade, or the Turkish Ugur Aktas, among others, as well as regular karatekas in the world circuit of all ages.

The karateka from Karate-Poliarrecife, Amelie Skiba, competed in 'Kata U14 Female', 'Kumite U14 Female-52kg', as well as in the 'U14 Female Open' category, according to the karate club. In the kata modality, she "had no chance of podium after falling, after passing two qualifiers." However, in the quarterfinals, she "showed a great level in this modality," adds the club.

"The best performance came in the Kumite modality, where Amelie managed to climb to the top of the podium, becoming champion of the category of her weight," adding all her fights as victories. On the other hand, also in Kumite, but in the Open category, where competitors of all weights participate, Amelie achieved "the Bronze, with a balance of three victories and only one defeat."

A new international experience for the karateka from the Arrecife club, which has been the first competition after the summer, and from which she returns with "very good feelings" for her next events in the current season, in the autonomous, national and international scope, conclude from Karate Poliarrecife.
