The Youth team of CB Lanzarote Puerto del Carmen has been proclaimed Champion of the Canary Islands after achieving a new victory in the Municipal Sports Center of Morro Jable (Fuerteventura) against the hosts of Morro Jable V. C. (20-31) in a match corresponding to the third day of the Canary Islands Youth Women's Championship held this weekend on the Majorera island.
With this result, the "tiñosera" squad is proclaimed Champion of the Canary Islands and will represent the Canary Islands in the Spanish Club Championship.
Previously, the Tiñoso team defeated, in the inaugural round, 3COM Squad Valsequillo (39-26) and did the same in the Saturday and second round against "Cerámicas Tacoronte" Lecomar 13 de Mayo (34-17).
In the last match, against the tournament hosts, although local Marbelys Reyes became the top scorer of the match and for her team with ten goals, Puerto del Carmen offered a more collective scoring effort, highlighting Amelia Gabaldón's eight goals. Her sister, Najara, remained as the third top scorer of the tournament with twenty-three goals and an average of 7.67 goals per match.
According to the coach from Tiñosa, Antonio Gabaldón, “happy. The objective was achieved. Reaching the last match with options to finish first and so it was. A tournament that we started with Valsequillo, which for us was the team to beat, the strongest. The interesting thing was to win that first match, those two points, to go with more confidence to the rest of the matches and we were able to do it. We proposed a three, three defense to try to minimize outside shooting and stop the player with the most shots and it worked out well for us. Afterwards, in the second match, with Tacoronte, it was an easier match, in which all the players were able to play. Happy with how they performed, with how they played. Today Sunday, in the third match, we also won it well. The girls performed to the maximum, they gave their all. And nothing, happy, happy for this Canary Islands Youth Championship and, on a personal level, my first medal as a coach so happy too. Now we will wait for the Sector draw to see if we are lucky and we get a good sector and we have possibilities to continue further on,” concludes the black and gold coach, new Canary Islands Youth champion with the black and gold jersey from Tiñosa.
