The Junior team of Costa Teguise (CB La Villa) achieved this Sunday a historic victory in the Insular Pavilion La Vega of San José de Las Palmas de Gran Canaria against C.B. Juventud Laguna (64-72), in a match for third and fourth place in the Canary Islands Junior Basketball Championship.
With this victory, the Teguise team finishes as the third best team in the Canary Islands and obtains the passport for the Spanish Championship which will be held at the end of April in Huelva.
In the match against Juventud Laguna, the Teguise bear cubs began controlling the match, good in defense against the Tenerife players. They took the first two quarters, which allowed them to reach halftime eleven points up. Juventud Laguna sought a reaction after the restart (20-12), but Costa Teguise knew how to recompose itself and prevailed in the decisive partial (21-26) to take the match and qualification for the state tournament.
The playmaker for the Teguise team, Enrique Pérez, uncorked the jar of essences and, with thirty-two points, became the top scorer for his team and of the game, all seasoned with seven assists. In the offensive aspect, he was seconded by, like a loyal squire, Aivaras Buzas, who contributed another double-double for the history of the Teguise club, with twenty-two points and eleven rebounds. In Juventud Laguna, Wiktor Szuchnicki stood out with twenty points.
David Román's squad finishes as the third best team in the Canary Islands and will represent Costa Teguise, Lanzarote and the Canary Islands in the Spanish Junior Basketball Championship to be held in Huelva from April 26 to May 2, 2026.
