ICF Canoe Ocean Racing World Championship Opening Ceremony

The Islote de Fermina premiered this Saturday with the opening ceremony of the first Kayak del Mar world championship, ICF Canoe Ocean Racing World Championship. An event organized by the Marlines de Lanzarote Canoeing Club, together with the Canary Islands Canoeing Federation and with the endorsement of the International Canoeing Federation, the Royal Spanish Canoeing Federation and the Higher Sports Council.

The event began at 8:00 p.m., and could be followed live through the championship's social networks, ICF.

The opening ceremony began with the raising of flags and the presentation of the 25 countries that will fight to become world sea kayak champions. After the presentation of the event, the paddlers received a visit from the Diabletes de la Villa, the Los Campesinos band, among other events.

La Garita beach (Arrieta) will be the starting box this Sunday, July 4, for the paddlers who will leave in two groups at 11:00 a.m., and will paddle 27 kilometers until they reach El Reducto beach in Arrecife.

Around 300 paddlers will compete in the waters of Conejera for the first world sea kayak championship. Despite the difficulties in traveling in this time of pandemic, the championship has the presence of relevant countries in the world of sea kayaking such as the United States or Brazil. Lanzarote receives paddlers of the stature of the American Ana Swetish and the South African Nicolas Notten, in addition to the fastest paddler in Spain, Walter Bouzán Sánchez.
