The XXXIV edition of the long-distance sporting event Club La Santa Ironman Lanzarote began early this Saturday morning with 1,400 triathletes.

This year the event is being celebrated with a peculiarity, as it will be the last time this demanding triathlon will be co-organized by Club La Santa, which has worked on this event since its arrival on the island 34 years ago. This news was announced last April, but the international Ironman organization has ensured its continuity for next year.

The sporting event, which kicked off on the morning of this hot May 23rd, consists of three disciplines: cycling, swimming, and running.

The event organization itself describes Ironman Lanzarote as "one of the most iconic" and longest-running in Europe. This sporting event first arrived on the island in 1992, being the first event of the brand to take place on the entire European continent.

The finish line of the event will be in Puerto del Carmen, where two days ago five of the most outstanding figures in this international long-distance triathlon gathered: Lucy Charles-Barclay (2023 IRONMAN World Champion), Patrick Lange (three-time IRONMAN World Champion), Sam Laidlow (2023 IRONMAN World Champion), Lars Dupont Lomholt, and Nina Derron (representative of the Swiss long-distance team).
