The IES Yaiza Triathlon arrives with 750 registered athletes

The IES Yaiza Triathlon is coming, with 750 athletes already registered

Students and teachers from sixteen Secondary Education centers in Lanzarote will be the protagonists of a test in which 750 triathletes will spare no effort to reach the finish line next Friday, April 28, honoring the spirit manifested in the motto of the XXIV IES Yaiza Triathlon, 'Without Limits', announces the City Council.

The pandemic caused a three-year hiatus, but the test is now back with the novelty this year that participants will carry their timing-champion chips to guarantee an computerized record of the qualifying data in real time, they report.

On this occasion, the host center, IES Yaiza, stands out for its participation rate with 97 triathletes, followed closely by IES Playa Honda with 86; IES Las Maretas and IES César Manrique with 80 and 79 triathletes, respectively, they make clear. In contrast to these centers, the least represented are the IES of Argana and Haría with a participation of less than 10, they acknowledge.

In this XXIV edition, the triathletes have been framed in 188 teams consisting of a maximum of 4 members. In addition, 33 triathletes from the first and second cycle of ESO have ventured to carry out this test individually and 10 over twenty years in a solitary fight against the clock and personal effort, they affirm.

As in previous years, the organization of the test, formed by the entire faculty of teachers and more than 350 collaborating students from the Institute itself, has decided to divide the competition into two categories, those over twenty years and those under this age, although the participation of triathletes from the First Cycle of ESO of the institute is also contemplated in all modalities and in a special category, they conclude.

The student concentration will begin at 08.15 hours with the arrival of the invited triathletes to the facilities and after the reception and the pertinent formalities, the participants will be transferred to the nearby enclave of Puerto Calero for the dispute of the swimming test, which will begin at 10.00 hours, in which the swimmers must save a distance of more than 700 meters in the open sea, they point out.

Once the waters have been abandoned, the triathletes will face a link race of 1,200 meters to reach as soon as possible the bicycle park located in the parking lot of the Hotel Hesperia, from where the cycling test will begin that will take the athletes to the educational center. Then face a distance close to 8.5 kilometers, plagued with orographic difficulties cross country through the stony and sandy ground of the winding circuit.

Finally, the participants will have to overcome the athletics test designed on a mixed circuit of more than 3.5 km with some slopes and cross country through the surroundings of the institute, which will force them to make a last effort to the desired goal, they collect.
