The central pavilion of the Ciudad Deportiva Lanzarote hosted this past weekend the second edition of Neurolanza, the neurolimpiads on the island that promote active aging through playful-sports tests. The capital city team “Los Gurfines” took first place, while Las Volcánicas (Tías) came in second place and Las Luchadoras (Tías) in third place.

The vice-president of the Government of the Canary Islands, Manuel Domínguez; the president of the Parliament of the Canary Islands, Astrid Pérez; the regional minister of Education, Vocational Training, Physical Activity and Sports, Poli Suárez; the minister of Physical Activity and Sports of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, Juan Monzón; as well as representatives from the participating municipalities of Arrecife, Tías and Teguise, were present at the final and awards ceremony.

More than 100 athletes in seven different teams participated in five tests for which the seniors had been preparing for months through training in their municipality. All of them will compete in the five tests such as Relays, Canarian Hoop, Numbers and Letters, and Letter Race; and a new addition to this edition: Color Figures. Specifically, Volcánicas (Tías); Luchadoras (Tías); Gurfines (Arrecife); Gracioseras (La Graciosa); Ni una Gota (Teguise); Magnéticas (Teguise); and Trompeteros (Teguise) competed.

“Seeing the seniors of our island enjoy these tests is something wonderful for our institution, as with this type of sporting event we continue to promote active aging and the mobility of people over 60 years of age,” adds the minister of Physical Activity and Sports, Juan Monzón, who also invited the rest of the island's municipalities “to join for the third edition next year 2027”.
