The celebration of Guanches Warriors Championship closed its first edition with great attendance success at the reopened Argana Sports Pavilion.
The organization, driven by the athlete and fighter from Arrecife, Hecher Sosa, with the support of the Arrecife City Council, managed to ensure that the great passion for martial arts enjoyed on the night of this past Saturday in Argana with eleven fights, four amateur and seven professional, which has been a new platform for the promotion of MMA talent from Arrecife, Lanzarote, and the Canary archipelago.
The event also featured the participation of outstanding female athletes. World champion Isabel Calvo and Carolan Olivares, finalist of the program The Ultimate Warrior, were part of a card that included two women's fights, which was a novelty for an event of this nature in Lanzarote.
The support of the Arrecife City Council, through Deportes Arrecife, has made it possible to undertake this first edition to offer a sports production in line with the characteristics of an MMA competition and, at the same time, contribute to the promotion of athletes and clubs linked to this discipline, which are very present in the city of Arrecife, and in other capitals of the Canary Islands.
The mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León, present last night at the Argana Pavilion, recalled that "many did not believe that in this term we would manage to launch, with the Law, the Argana Pavilion, the largest in Lanzarote, and which was closed for 13 years due to illegalities."
The mayor stressed that "it will soon be a year since the reopening of the Argana Pavilion, complying with the Law and safety regulations for large-capacity sports facilities." Yonathan de León congratulates himself on the great success in these months of reopening for the Argana neighborhood and its residents, who are seeing that this Pavilion revitalizes the neighborhood, allows athletes, residents, and clubs to have a great pavilion, and that Arrecife can host major sporting events, enhancing life in the neighborhoods.”
"Guanches Warriors Championship has been a success in its first edition", highlighted the mayor of Arrecife. "With a full house of spectators to enjoy mixed martial arts with eleven fights and a card that combined Canarian talent with fighters from outside the islands", he added, in addition to congratulating Arrecife resident and Lanzarote fighter Hecher Sosa De Rada, for promoting this great sporting event. For her part, the Councilor for Sports, Eli Merino, highlighted that it has been "a great sporting event where the Arrecife City Council, through Deportes Arrecife, supports and backs sporting events”.
From the Arrecife City Council, the support for athletes from the capital, Lanzarote, and the Canary Islands will continue, giving visibility to the work they do as fighters, coaches, or clubs.
