The Marlines Canoe Club of Lanzarote is once again among the national elite thanks to the extraordinary performance of Axel Celmanti in the LVII Spanish Olympic Sprint Championship, held this weekend at the Trasona Reservoir, in Asturias.
The Marlines paddler, integrated throughout the season into the High Performance Center of Murcia along with the Spanish paracanoe team, continues to take giant steps in his sporting progression. After participating just a few weeks ago in the European Championship held in Portugal, where he achieved a meritorious ninth continental position, Axel arrived at this important national event in great shape.
The competition began on Friday afternoon with the A Final of PV3 500 meters, where the Marlines athlete put on a magnificent race that allowed him to win the silver medal, the first medal of his career in a Spanish Olympic Sprint Championship.
Far from ending his day there, just an hour later he returned to the water to compete in the PV3 200 meters classification. Axel won his heat decisively, securing his presence in another A Final.
On Saturday morning, he once again demonstrated his enormous competitive growth, repeating the result of the previous day and winning a second silver medal, closing an outstanding championship and becoming a double Spanish runner-up.
These results confirm the extraordinary evolution that the Marlines paddler is experiencing. In just one year, he has made a spectacular leap in level, consolidating himself among the best specialists in the country and demonstrating that the work developed with the technical team of the Spanish team is paying off.
After finishing the competition, Axel commented on the result achieved in Asturias: "Just a year ago, this seemed very distant, and today I return from a Spanish Championship with two silver medals. I am very grateful to all the people who have helped me on this path, especially the Marlines Club, the Spanish team, and the CAR Murcia team. This only gives me more motivation to continue growing and to face the World Championship in Poland with enthusiasm."
His season, however, has not ended yet. After the Spanish Championship, Axel will continue working with the Spanish paracanoe team in a specific training camp in Galicia, where he will continue preparing for the main objective of the year: the Olympic and Paralympic Sprint World Championship, which will be held in mid-August in Poland.
From the Marlines Club, there is enormous confidence that this progression will continue and can translate into a great international result. The work, sacrifice, and commitment that Axel has been demonstrating throughout the season are a reflection of the enormous potential he still has to develop and of a very promising future within national and international paracanoe.

Javier López qualifies for the World Championship
As a notable highlight of the weekend, they also congratulate the paddler Javier López, who last Thursday achieved qualification to represent Spain in the next World Championship in the K1 5,000 meters with portages event. Furthermore, on Saturday he was proclaimed Spanish champion in K2 1,000 meters and runner-up in Spain in K4 1,000 meters, adding new successes to his brilliant sporting career.
