The XI edition of the ULTRABIKE Lanzarote, scheduled to be held this weekend, has been officially postponed after the decision taken by the Department of Environment of the Cabildo of Lanzarote.
The organization of the event has deeply regretted the cancellation, assuring that the succession of events notified first thing on Friday “were totally beyond their control” and made the celebration of the race unfeasible, despite having sought alternatives to the planned route.
From ULTRABIKE Lanzarote they explain that the intervention of the island department forced them to make a “painful decision” at a time when everything was already prepared for the development of the event. “Unfortunately, in situations of this magnitude, there comes a point where progress is impossible”, they point out.
“Although it is not the first time that a similar situation has been experienced on the island with a sporting event, we hope that this experience will serve to reflect and establish action protocols that prevent its repetition”, say from the organization.
It is not the first time that the Environment Department has suspended a sporting event, as will be recalled, in 2022 the XXIV Rally Isla de los Volcanes was suspended after not receiving the required permits.
From the organization they wanted to thank the understanding of the participants who came to the bib collection stand and the numerous messages of support received through social networks, as well as the solidarity shown by other organizing entities of sporting events both in Lanzarote and in La Graciosa.
The organizing team is already working on finding a new date for the celebration of the XI edition of the ULTRABIKE Lanzarote. “We regret the inconvenience caused. And we will continue to inform”, they conclude.
