The Teguise Lanzarote Judo Club competed this Saturday at the Villaviciosa de Odón Pavilion, in Madrid, in the last day of the 2023 Men's First Division League, a day that has determined that the Lanzarote team, the only Canary Islander in the division, will maintain its place in the national judo elite.
This third and final day of the national championship became a real final for the Teguise Lanzarote Judo Club, playing for permanence against two teams, in theory, stronger and after a somewhat hesitant start to the season affected by injuries and absences.
Finally, the Teguise team won all three matches on the final day, against Girona Judo Securitas, JC Getafe and the Extremaduran JC Stabia. The victories have allowed the conejeros to maintain their place as the only Canary Island team in the elite after finishing in seventh position with 11 points. Ahead, the leader, Valencia CJ, Madrid's JC Sotillo, two of last Saturday's opponents, Girona and Stabia, with AJ Móstoles finishing fifth, followed by CJ Fontenebro, also from Madrid. Behind them were JC Getafe, CD Ronin from Valencia, Sakura from Madrid, JC San Sebastián and Judo Binéfar from Maño.
The Teguise Judo Club's expedition to Madrid was made up of Xerach Hernández, Pedro Gómez, Álvaro Cano, Jorge Cano, Sergio Agudo, Alejandro Medina, Masato André, Manuel Rodrigues, Miguel Miras, Max Labordde, Martín Salvado and Guillermo Cadenas with Alejandro Ramírez and Julián Lozano as coaches. Diego Fernández, Alberto Gaitero and Carlos Centeno dropped out of this final list for various reasons.
According to the team manager, Antonio Ramírez, this last day "confirms us as a team in the elite of Spanish judo for another year". "We are the only Canary Island team that fights every year with the best in the country and that fills us with pride and serves as an inspiration for all those who are part of the Teguise Lanzarote Judo Club family, especially for our youth team players, the main reason for our existence."
"Congratulations to all of us who make up this great family of judo conejero", concludes Antonio Ramírez.
