The Arrecife - Agadir International Regatta celebrated its ninth edition this week, an event organized by the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife in collaboration with the Yatch Club de Agadir, Calero Marinas and Marina Agadir, in which a dozen boats participated. Antonio Luis Hernández's Sorcery was the first to complete the 224 nautical miles that separate the city of Arrecife and Agadir, in Morocco, taking the victory in this ninth edition.
On Tuesday morning, the IX Arrecife - Agadir International Regatta was started, with the ten boats departing from the bay of Arrecife. The president of the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife, Julio Romero, and the councilor of Physical Activity and Sports of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, Juan Monzón, were in charge of giving the starting signal for the regatta.
The adverse navigation conditions affected several of the participating boats, suffering different problems and not being able to reach the finish line in Agadir. It has been one of the toughest editions due to the state of the sea and the intensity of the wind, highlighting the previous safety inspections that have guaranteed that the crews are prepared and with all the necessary means. Felipeva VI of Felipe del Rosario, Martinilla of Severiano García, Yasta of Octavio González and Muyay of Aureliano Negrín, were the affected boats that were forced to withdraw.
After just over 29 and a half hours of navigation, the Sorcery of the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife and skippered by Antonio Luis Hernández, was the first to reach La Ville de Agadir, and take the victory in the ninth edition of the Arrecife - Agadir International Regatta. The second place overall went to Miguel Lorenzo's Bicho Ruin, with 38 hours and 55 minutes of navigation. And Sergio Vicente Acevedo's Papoa was the third classified.
The sailors were entertained upon arrival by the members of the Yatch Club de Agadir, and have participated in different activities organized in the town of Morocco, such as an excursion to the city of Taroudant in the oasis of Tiout and a sardine feast for the sailors. A regatta that has once again highlighted the ties of brotherhood between the cities of Arrecife and Agadir.
The awards ceremony closed on Saturday night the IX Arrecife – Agadir International Regatta, an event that was attended by the president of the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife, Julio Romero, and the president of the Yatch Club de Agadir, Ahmed Benouadden, who were accompanied by the councilor of Physical Activity and Sports of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, Juan Monzón, as well as Antonio Cabrera from the Organizing Committee and Luis Ley from the Regatta Committee.
