Carballal San José Obrero Preview

CB San José Obrero Lanzarote faced on Saturday night the last match of the year in the Men's First National Division, and in which they once again demonstrated their solvency on the 40x20 court against a rival that never gave up. As the minutes passed, the team from the Titerroy neighborhood opened the gap on the scoreboard against Granitos Ibéricos Carballal, eventually winning by a clear 25 to 32.

The first minutes of the match were tentative, with the defenses prevailing over the attacks in the early stages. Diego Fernández opened the scoring for the Lanzarote team, and Granitos Ibéricos Carballal needed just over six minutes to open the goal defended by Javi Santana. Two goals from Iago Costas allowed the Galician team to take the lead (2-1).

Granitos Ibéricos Carballal took the initiative until the last ten minutes of the first half. The locals had a maximum difference of three goals (7-4), a disadvantage that San José Obrero gradually reduced. Ángel Iglesias, with a seven-meter throw, tied the score and then scored from the right wing to return the initiative to his team (8-9).

With four minutes remaining in the first half, Diego Fernández and Mikita Liavonau were in charge of putting the score at 9 to 11 on the scoreboard, forcing the coach of Granitos Ibéricos Carballal to request the first timeout. On the return to the court, Óscar Silva and Ángel Iglesias scored to increase the lead to four goals. The first half ended with a score of 9 to 13.

CB San José Obrero Lanzarote wanted to seal the match quickly in the first minutes of the second half. The second period began with a 0-3 run in favor of the Lanzarote team, with goals from Diego Fernández, Miguel Laguna, and Óscar Silva, increasing the lead to seven goals (9-16).

Despite the difference, Granitos Ibéricos Carballal did not give up and, near the halfway point, managed to get within four goals, thanks to two counterattacks finished by Iago Costas. The coach of San José Obrero, Iñaki Malumbres, requested a timeout to stop the reaction of the locals, and above all, to get his players back into the game.

With less than ten minutes to go in the match, CB San José Obrero regained the 6-goal lead with a goal from Mikita Liavonau, which again forced the coach of Granitos Ibéricos Carballal to request a timeout. The players of the Lanzarote team managed the acquired advantage to secure the two points that were at stake.

With the score at 25 to 32, the match came to an end, with CB San José Obrero adding a new victory to consolidate their lead in Group A of the Men's First National Division. Furthermore, the Titerroy team takes advantage of the stumble of Disiclín Balonmano Lalín to increase the lead over the second-placed team to five points.
