The island of La Graciosa brought this Sunday the final touch to this fifth edition of the V Latin Sailing Encounter of La Graciosa Island – Fundación Líneas Romero Trophy. The event brought together 20 boats from La Graciosa, Lanzarote, Fuerteventura, and Gran Canaria, consolidating itself once again as an essential event for Canarian Latin sailing.
The Romerito boat, captained by David Martín, took first place, followed by Jameos del Agua, captained by Alfredo Morales. The podium was completed by Di Napoli Isidoro and Manuela III, helmed by José Pascual Perdomo
Over the weekend, Caleta del Sebo buzzed with the excitement of the regattas, participatory workshops, and the maritime atmosphere that characterizes this traditional discipline. Thanks to stable and favorable weather conditions, the races proceeded as planned, offering a nautical spectacle closely followed, both from land and from the accompanying vessel provided by Líneas Romero.
A special awards ceremony
The awards ceremony was attended by institutional representatives and organizers. During the event, enlivened by the timple player Gabriel Cubas, there was time for surprises and emotions. Marcos Cabrera, president of Bote Roque Nublo, recognized Luis Romero, vice president of the Líneas Romero Foundation, and Luis Toledo, president of the Canary Islands Federation of Latin Sail Boats, highlighting the bond and brotherhood between the islands. As a token of this, he presented a t-shirt in memory of "El Seiko," from the elimination final of the boat race.
Among the authorities present was Lorena Hernández, Director General of Indigenous Sports of the Government of the Canary Islands, who highlighted: "The barquillo family demonstrates, in events like this, in La Graciosa, how alive it is and how important it is to see children enjoying it."The Teguise Sports Councilor, Alejandro Ramírez, congratulated the local champion and all participating boats "for having once again put on a show in the bay of Caleta de Sebo," highlighting the effort of the crews and the event's projectionFor his part, the president of the Canary Islands Latin Sail Boat Federation, Luis Toledo, stated: "It is very important that companies and foundations like Líneas Romero promote traditional sports," highlighting the growth and consolidation of the event at a regional level.
A weekend that bets on health and community
In addition to the competitions, the event offered activities open to the public, such as creative workshops led by Álvaro Guzmán, and Latin sail baptisms, which introduced residents and visitors to this cultural heritage. In this regard, the participation of thirteen families from the Asperger TEA Islas Canarias Association, in both workshops and baptisms, is noteworthy, positioning the event as a space for coexistence and inclusion.
With a very positive outcome, the V Latin Sailing Encounter of La Graciosa Island – Fundación Líneas Romero Trophy concluded, strengthening its commitment to the preservation of the Canarian nautical legacy and to the cultural and sporting revitalization of the island.
