Radical change of Lanzarote Puerto del Carmen against Lobas Oviedo

Second victory of the season for the tiñoseras who begin to see light at the end of the tunnel

Puerto del Carmen (1)

Lanzarote Puerto del Carmen achieved this Saturday its second victory of the season at the Municipal de Tías against Lobas Global Atac Oviedo (27-23) in a match corresponding to the sixteenth matchday of the women's División de Honor Oro.

Second victory of the season for the tiñoseras who are starting to see light at the end of the tunnel for the second part of the season after beating the ovetenses, third in the standings. Jesús Casanova's players remain last in the league, fourteenth, but with a completely different air than what has been felt for too many weeks. Three points less than Carballal and Mislata, but with one less game than the Galicians.

From the start, both teams displayed an intense rhythm. With equality in the first ten minutes of the match, the home team achieved a minimal advantage that served them to go ahead at halftime, three goals up. The stands were enthusiastic and faced the second half eager for a victory that had been elusive for many games. Beatriz Masseu was making a grand debut on her home field, but what had really changed the team was the intensity in defense. Despite some exclusions, highly protested by the crowd, Puerto del Carmen maintained the lead in the second half, returning to its origins, embracing the speed and counter-attack that has brought it so much success for a long time. Brenda Torres was also finding her rhythm in attack and, although Lobas tried to close the gap, Puerto del Carmen was another team.

Casanova relied on superiority in attack, disregarding the goal, and although the tactic cost them some goals, the "tiñoseras" did not slacken in attack and finally took home a longed-for victory.

Beatriz Masseu, in her debut in the Tías temple, once again became the top scorer of the match and of the Lanzarote team with eleven goals, well supported in the offensive facet by Brenda Torres's seven goals. In the Asturian squad, two players with five goals each, Teresa Rodríguez and Carmen García-CalvoThe coach from Tiñoso, Jesús Casanova, showed "a lot of joy because we have been working for a long time with disappointment after disappointment and well, it was time for us to get one of these little games, with good performances from the players and with a bit of luck at some point. Getting the points in this situation was very important for us, and even more so against a team that is at the top, that they are third, they are a great team. I had told them that for us today what mattered was to keep growing in our way of playing, that the result, if it couldn't be, then it couldn't be, but the important thing is to prepare ourselves for what's coming from now on, which are direct rivals and there we really have to put in the effort. We have improved in defense, that's the key. I had told them that, no matter how much we attacked, if we weren't able to defend and run, we were going to have it complicated and, in fact, I think the attack wasn't good at all. We had some individual plays, of two against two more or less, but overall I understand that we still have to improve a lot. But, if we keep defending like this, we have quite a bit won. After this victory they will start to take us into account and the rivals will start to prepare better for the matches against us. Well, that's another handicap, but well, we have to live with that," concluded the coach from Puerto del CarmenAccording to the Oviedo coach, Manolo Díaz, "playing in Tías always generates a lot of uncertainty, with a coach like Jesús, he has recovered the team, he has enhanced it and, with some additions, I knew it was going to be very difficult. To that difficulty we add that we have not been at all, at all, at all accurate from six meters and from the penalty spot. So, of course, if you don't score, it ends up becoming a loop of not scoring in attack, well, in defense we weren't that sure either. And that has been the key to the game." Regarding the Tías tactic of playing many minutes without a goalkeeper to achieve some superiority in attack, Díaz stated that "it is a quite common situation, although unusual, it is not used continuously, but it is quite common for many teams to use it. We also use it from time to time, today we have used it, but I do not place the problem there at all. I think the sin has been ours, all that we have missed in front of goal. It is impossible to stay in the game by constantly missing." Asked about the future of Puerto del Carmen, the Oviedo coach stated that "with this result they have achieved today, very important, because Carballal had also won, which has complicated things a little, but, with the potential they have incorporated, I think they have every chance of staying up."The Lanzarote Puerto del Carmen will return to competition next Saturday, February 14, at 7:45 PM (peninsular time), at the Pabellón Polideportivo Exterior de La Albericia in Santander, visiting Uneatlantico Pereda, a team that is thirteenth in the standings with eight points and a record of four wins and twelve losses.
