The Latin sail boats returned to the bay of Arrecife on Sunday morning, with the celebration of the fifth regatta of the Insular League of Latin Sail Boats of 8.55 Meters Centers of Art, Culture and Tourism of Lanzarote, a competition that has the support of the Insular Sports Service of the Cabildo of Lanzarote. El Puerto del Arrecife, skippered by David Martín, dominated the regatta from beginning to end, and took the victory in the Líneas Romero Trophy.
The intensity of the wind varied throughout the morning in the bay of Arrecife, which made it difficult for the skippers to decide on the best sail. The test began with conditions of 18-20 knots from the northwest.
El Puerto del Arrecife of David Martín took the lead of the fleet in the first upwind leg, taking a considerable advantage over the rest of the boats. Volcán de la Corona of Pedro de León was in second position at the first buoy, taking advantage of the fact that El Graciosero of Virgina Morales had to tack to reach the buoy. Behind, were Maramajo of Andrea Stinga and Villa de Teguise of Santiago González.
El Graciosero recovered to overtake Volcán de la Corona in the second upwind leg to the race course and chasing El Puerto del Arrecife, which remained in the lead. Maramajo was having a good regatta and even threatened the third position. Villa de Teguise, with difficulties in navigation, had to withdraw.
The positions remained unchanged until the finish line, with El Puerto del Arrecife of David Martín taking the victory in the Líneas Romero Trophy. Second place went to El Graciosero of Virginia Morales, Volcán de la Corona of Pedro de León maintained the third position and Maramajo of Andrea Stinga closed the regatta with the fourth place.
After the celebration of the fifth day of the season, the boats can discard the worst result added so far. El Puerto del Arrecife and El Graciosero are at the top of the classification of the Insular League of 8.55 Meter Boats Centers of Art, Culture and Tourism of Lanzarote with 4 points each. The third classified is Volcán de la Corona with 7 points, and behind are Maramajo and Villa de Teguise with 11 points.
Next Sunday, May 25, a new day will be held in the bay of Arrecife, and if conditions permit, a double regatta will be held, with the recovery of the fourth race of the season and the celebration of the sixth regatta of the Insular League of 8.55 Meter Boats Centers of Art, Culture and Tourism of Lanzarote.
