Supported by very good sea and wind conditions and the participation of fourteen boats from Lanzarote and Fuerteventura, the fifth edition of the Southern Latin Sail Cup began this Sunday in the tourist town of Playa Blanca with the celebration of a single leg over three laps and victory for the Playa Blanca boat, thus confirming its objective of going for it all: "the sensations are great, we see that we can be ahead and this victory gives us strength to train more and continue betting on winning regattas," said Virginia Morales, skipper of the boat that becomes the first leader of the 2025 Southern Cup.
Behind Playa Blanca, Di Napoli, a boat from Fuerteventura skippered by Pascual Perdomo, and Jameos del Agua with Alfredo Morales at the helm, entered. From what was seen in this first event, the public will be able to enjoy an even Cup with experienced crews and skippers and other very young people who are also eager to demonstrate their worth.
In addition, the celebration of the regattas in the morning favors the concentration of a greater number of fans. There were many people watching the regatta on the stone of Playa Blanca and the entire promenade.
The inaugural day of the Southern Cup also marked the debut of the Graciplus boat, which with Nete Armas at the helm and with an honorable fourth place is also a candidate for the title. The Playa Dorada boat closed the list of the top five finishers in this start of the Southern Cup.
"The Latin sailing family is excited again, the sailors are very eager to see more boats competing around them and the fans are delighted with the spectacle they can see very closely with a starting line from the promenade," says Ángel Lago, Councilor for Sports of the Yaiza City Council, the institution that organizes the Cup with federative support and the collaboration of Marina Rubicón, the competition's base port. The next day will be two regattas next Sunday, June 22nd.
