The LXXVI San Ginés International Offshore Regatta is already underway, with ten boats setting off from Las Palmas de Gran Canaria on Friday afternoon, heading for the island of Lanzarote to complete the 115 nautical miles of the course. It is the oldest offshore regatta at national level and is considered by participants to be one of the toughest races, offering a unique experience for sailors as they pass through areas such as El Tostón in Fuerteventura and La Bocaina between Lanzarote and Fuerteventura.
The registration process closed at noon on Friday, with ten boats finally participating. The Real Club Náutico de Arrecife is represented by the presence of the Sorcery (Antonio “Toy” Hernández), Lanzarote Sailing Paradise (Alejandro Martín), Altamar I (Francisco Curbelo) and Manitu (Pedro J. Rodríguez). The fleet is completed by the participation of the Bidasoa (Unai Segurado) from CM Varadero Gran Canaria, the Filipeva (Felipe del Rosario) from RCN de Gran Canaria and Fontmar (Ignacio Concepción) from RCN de Tenerife, as well as the presence of the Isla Sirena II (Alfredo Santana), Renegade (Fabio Valenciano) and Martinilla (Severiano García).
The regatta is divided into two races, and the sum of the results from both will determine the overall winner. The first race is from the start in Gran Canaria to La Bocaina (Lanzarote-Fuerteventura), with a coefficient of 0.5 points applied to this first leg. The second race is from the start in Gran Canaria to the arrival at the breakwater of the Muelle de la Cebolla in Arrecife, with a coefficient of 1 point applied to this race.
The weather forecast for the LXXVI San Ginés International Offshore Regatta indicates north-easterly winds, with an intensity varying between 18 and 24 knots, with possible higher gusts and waves of approximately 1.5 meters in height. Undoubtedly, conditions that test the navigation of the boats and the skill of the sailors on board.
The arrival of the first vessels is scheduled for the early hours of Saturday morning, with all boats receiving provisions at sea before heading to the mooring area located at Marina Lanzarote. The lounges of the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife will host the trophy presentation for the LXXVI International Offshore Race San Ginés at 7:45 PM, followed by a buffet dinner offered by the club and the traditional Chalanistas dance.
The LXXVI International Offshore Race San Ginés is organized by the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife with the collaboration of the Real Club Náutico de Gran Canaria and Calero Marinas SL, by delegation of the Royal Spanish Sailing Federation and the Royal Canary Islands Sailing Federation. It has the support of the Government of the Canary Islands, the Lanzarote Centers of Art, Culture and Tourism, the Cabildo de Lanzarote, the Insular Sports Service, Turismo Lanzarote, European Sport Destination, Arrecife City Council through the departments of Sports and Tourism.
