The coast of Arrecife hosted on Saturday morning the twenty-ninth edition of the San Ginés 2024 Crossing, an event organized by the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife and which is part of the program of sports activities of the Fiestas de San Ginés that are celebrated these days in the capital of the island. The participants had to complete a route of 1,200 meters, passing under the emblematic Puente de Las Bolas, with Nuria Jaén and Gustavo Lourenço, swimmers of the CD Nadamas, being the ones who took the absolute victory.
The youngest were the first to participate in the XXIX Travesía San Ginés, with the pre-Benjamin category test being held, with the participants swimming 50 meters and all of them being received on the access ramp to the club as winners. As for the rest of the categories, the swimmers of the Benjamin category completed a route of 400 meters and 800 meters for those in the children's category. Tania Herrera (Esna Lanzarote) and Pablo González (CN Vallmont), took the victory among the Benjamins, and in the children the victory went to Katia Pérez and Unai Cocera (CN Metropole).
The swimmers of the children's, junior and master categories moved to La Rocar beach, where the starting line of the test was located. The mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan de León, together with the vice president of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, Jacobo Medina, were in charge of giving the start to the more than 150 participants. At the Puente de Las Bolas there was great expectation, with numerous people closely following the strokes of the swimmers.
The arrival of the men's category was marked by the great equality between the first two classified, deciding the winner practically in the last strokes. The victory went to Gustavo Lourenço (Nadamas) with a time of 13 minutes and 27 seconds. The second place on the podium went to Hugo Rijo (Club Esportiu Mediterrani) and the podium was completed by Juan José de Armas (Nadamas).
The women's category test was also quite even, with minimal differences between the first three classified.
