The capital of Lanzarote became the epicenter of island sport on the last day of the year with the traditional San Silvestre Ciudad de Arrecife and the novel Swim Silvestre.
The Islas Canarias Park in the capital of Lanzarote began to fill with people before ten in the morning to participate in the different categories of the last sporting event of the year in Lanzarote. After the races of the little ones, the adults began to warm up to the rhythm of zumba on a sunny day envied by the rest of the country.
With almost British punctuality, the adults who toured and enjoyed a good part of the city center took the start, with slight changes compared to the circuit of previous years, until completing the five regulatory kilometers.
In the women's category, Yasmín Acuña Vankova from ADAL won first place on the podium with a time of 18:49. Madalina Miclea (19:33) took second place, while Yeya Luz (20:03) climbed to the third step for the second year in a row.
The men's podium was completed by Yerove Rodríguez in first place (14'17), repeating the success of last year, followed by Mathijs Casteele (14:40) and Dominik Ivancik from CD Zero Wattios (14:45).
The individual trophy for the most Christmas-like attire went to María del Carmen Rodríguez, while the group trophy went to the Sport&Fun group, led by Marta Salvador Berenguer.
The event, which raised 8,400 euros for the Pequeño Valiente Association, was organized by Lumar Canarias in collaboration with the Department of Sports of the Arrecife City Council and sponsored by Turismo Lanzarote, Tourist Centers and the Cabildo de Lanzarote, in addition to the contribution of Tripasión Lanzarote and Open Mall Lanzarote.
Parallel to the San Silvestre Ciudad de Arrecife, the first edition of the Swim Silvestre was held on El Reducto Beach. In the main category of 1,400 meters, swimmers from CN Nadamas dominated the men's and women's podiums. In men, Juan José Armas won (19:27), followed on the podium by Gustavo Laurenco Ferreira (19:28) and Andreu Jaén Serra (19:48). In women, Naira Jaén was the winner (20:44), with Natalia Sasu in second place (22:23) and Lily Gopar in third position (22:43).
In the 600-meter category for those born between 2012 and 2015, the men's podium was headed by Pablo González Sirvent (CN Vallmont) with a time of 9:17, followed by Alexander Delgado Hernández (9:43) and Aray Curbelo Isidoro (CD Nonadamos) closing the leading trio (10:54). In the women's category, Martina Álvarez Noda (Nadamas) won with a time of 9:28, followed by Emma Abril Celaye (CD Nonadamos) after using a time of 9:30.
With more than fifteen hundred people between both events, Arrecife closed the year as the capital of sports. The awards ceremony was held by the sea in the Islas Canarias Park with the presence of the mayor of Arrecife, Yonathan De León, councilors Eli Merino and Roberto Herbón, as well as the vice president of the Cabildo, Jacobo Medina, and the Minister of Sports, Juan Monzón. The awards ceremony ended with a group photo, best wishes and an unavoidable appointment to enjoy the San Silvestre and Swim Silvestre again on the last day of the new year in the city of Arrecife.
