Half a thousand swimmers jumped into the water from Bajo Risco beach in the XXIX edition of the “El Río” Swimming Crossing, a race that once again united Lanzarote and La Graciosa.
The Councilor for Physical Activity and Sports, Juan Monzón, was in charge of making the traditional “horn blast” at the start when the clock struck 12:30. Alongside him was the mayor of Teguise, Olivia Duque; the sports councilor of the municipality, Alejandro Ramírez; and the island councilor, Domingo Cejas.
In this edition, full of excitement and equality throughout the course, in the men's category, the victory went to Álvaro Cabrera, followed by Kimbo Vallejo and Herminio Fernández, who completed a podium of the highest level. In the women's classification, the first position was for Natalia Sasu, accompanied on the podium by Sheila Pulido and Nora Delgado.
In addition, in the junior men's category the winner was Herminio Fernández (second classified in the general), followed by Matías Padrón and David Rodríguez. As for the junior women's category, the winner was Natalia Sasu (winner of the general), with Naira Pérez coming in second place and Carla Pérez in third place.
On the other hand, in the women's children's category the winner was Nora Delgado (third in the general classification), followed by Mirela Flora and Aitana González; while in the men's children's category the winner was Nicolás Padrón, with Diego Vázquez as second classified and Erik Mauel Suárez as third.
“One more year, this race reminds us of the unique union between Lanzarote and La Graciosa, and the great level of our swimmers. It is a pride to have an event that transcends sports and has become a benchmark inside and outside our islands,” said the councilor, who also announced that the XXX edition will be held on September 19, 2026.
Monzón also wanted to thank the organizational effort of the area as a whole of the Island Sports Service, as well as the collaboration of the Security and Emergency Consortium, Security Forces, volunteers and municipal areas involved, which made it possible for the day to take place with full security guarantees.
The “El Río” Crossing celebrates its thirtieth anniversary in the next edition, already establishing itself as one of the most anticipated competitions on the island's sports calendar.
