More than 40 young people participated on Saturday, September 26, in Lanzarote Does Surf, an event held at Famara beach with the aim of bringing surfing and bodyboarding closer to the island's new generations. The activity brought together students from Compulsory Secondary Education from different public centers in Lanzarote.
The day began with a warm-up and some basic notions before entering the water. Accompanied by professionals from JMC Surf School and La Santa Surf School, participants were able to put what they learned into practice and try surfing and bodyboarding. The sea conditions were suitable for them to learn, enjoy both sports, and gain confidence in the water.
“Lanzarote Does Surf has had a very good response, and that shows us that young people are eager to get into surfing and bodyboarding. For us, the most important thing is to give them the opportunity to get into the water, try these sports, and discover if they want to continue practicing them. Seeing the enthusiasm with which they experience that first contact is, without a doubt, one of the best parts of this initiative,” highlighted Héctor Rodríguez, co-director of the Lanzarote Quemao Class.
In addition to offering them the opportunity to discover these sports for free, the event allowed young people to have fun while learning, share the experience with other participants, and enjoy a different morning in contact with the sea. Driven by QuemaoHub, the Projects Laboratory, the initiative also seeks to promote healthy habits and values such as companionship, self-improvement, and respect for the environment.
