2nd School Hand Pelota Encounter held in Lanzarote

More than 200 students participated last Wednesday, May 24, in the 2nd School Meeting of Pelotamano, held around the Virgen de los Dolores hermitage in the municipality of Tinajo, Lanzarote. The event was organized by the Ministry of Education, Universities, Culture and Sports of the Government of the Canary Islands through the General Directorate of Sports, together with the Cabildo of Lanzarote and the City Council of Tinajo.

Students from the Institutes of Secondary Education (IES) Blas Cabrera Felipe and Las Maretas, as well as from the Centers of Early Childhood and Primary Education (CEIP) Argana Alta, La Asomada, Concepción Rodríguez and Guiguan had the opportunity to learn about this traditional Canarian game from specialists in this field, in an event that was attended by the Deputy Minister of Education, Universities, Culture and Sports, María Dolores Rodríguez, and the General Director of Sports, Manuel López, reports the Ministry.

Once the practice was completed, the audiovisual of pelota mano prepared within the framework of the Sports Social Responsibility Program (RSD Canarias) was screened, which has been made available to the General Directorate of Planning, Innovation and Quality of the Ministry so that the teachers of the Islands have access to this material as an educational resource, concludes the Ministry of Education.
