The Lanzarote swimmer Miguel Martínez, a member of the Club Deportivo Pingüinos de Arrecife, has once again made history for Canarian artistic swimming after his brilliant participation in the European Artistic Swimming Championships held in Luxembourg from June 4 to 7.
Martínez was selected to be part of the Spanish team, also being the only athlete from the national squad who does not belong to a high-performance center, a particularly significant circumstance considering that the Canary Islands do not currently have this type of sports facilities.
During the competition, the young athlete delivered an outstanding performance, managing to be crowned COMEN champion in men's figures and participating in the combo that was COMEN champion and European runner-up behind Russia.
In addition, he achieved a meritorious fourth position in the COMEN solo event.
To these results, his excellent classification in figures is added, where he finished in 22nd place out of a total of 215 participants.
His performance was one of the keys for the Spanish team to win the COMEN Best Country Trophy, an award that recognizes the joint work and competitive level demonstrated by the national team.
These successes consolidate Miguel Martínez as one of the great references in Spanish artistic swimming. It is not for nothing that this season he had already made history by becoming the first male swimmer to be crowned Spanish champion in men's and women's figures, an unprecedented achievement that reflects his extraordinary sporting progress.
The Club Deportivo Pingüinos de Arrecife also wishes to congratulate Alessandra Mauri, also selected as a coach for the Spanish team for this championship, as well as recognize the work of the entire technical team led by technical director Sylvia Hernández and coaches Nayara Peña, Quentin Valerina, and Arantxa Quesada. Their work, dedication, and commitment have been fundamental for the club's sporting growth and for achieving these results.
The club also wishes to thank the constant support of all the entities and collaborators who make it possible to continue developing this sports project: RCNA, Cabildo de Lanzarote, EPEL, Arrecife City Council, and Yaiza City Council.
The results obtained in Luxembourg represent a new milestone for Lanzarote and Canary Islands artistic swimming, demonstrating that talent, effort, and teamwork are capable of overcoming any barrier.
