The Magec Tías Lanzarote Against Gender Violence debuted this weekend in the 2025/2026 season, with a narrow defeat against Spar Gran Canaria (75-79). In a vibrant match full of back-and-forth action, the players led by Jesús García demonstrated character, dedication, and moments of great play, although they were ultimately unable to complete the comeback at the Tías Municipal Pavilion.

The Lanzarote team started their league journey strongly, imposing their rhythm in the first stages of the match. With a solid inside game and a well-established defense, the red-and-blacks made it difficult for the Gran Canaria team's offensive fluidity, reaching the end of the first quarter with a tight two-point advantage.

The intensity of Magec Tías Lanzarote and their ability to dominate in the paint were key in those opening minutes. However, Spar Gran Canaria's success in counterattacks kept the score balanced and the excitement in the stands.

The second period started with good feelings for the locals, but a 0-12 run by the visiting team changed the course of the match. Cristóbal Navarro's team took advantage of the Lanzarote team's defensive errors to take the lead.

Coach Jesús García called a timeout, managing to reorganize the defense and reduce the distance before the break. At the end of the first half, the scoreboard reflected a 36-42, leaving everything open for the second half.

After passing through the locker room, Spar Gran Canaria was once again effective from the three-point line, extending its lead to 14 points. However, Magec Tías Lanzarote did not give up. A great offensive and defensive reaction allowed the locals to score a 13-0 run, cutting the difference and restoring hope to the public present.

The third quarter ended with a 21-20 partial score in favor of the Lanzarote team, which faced the last ten minutes with real chances of victory (57-62).

Already in the final stretch, Spar Gran Canaria once again found success from the outside, opening a ten-point gap that seemed definitive. Even so, Magec Tías Lanzarote once again drew on their pride, putting pressure on their rival's ball movement and recovering several balls that were transformed into fast baskets. The visitors were forced to call two consecutive timeouts to stop the local reaction.

Despite the effort and determination shown until the last second, time worked against the Lanzarote team, who ended up losing by a close 75 to 79.

Magec Tías Lanzarote Against Gender Violence is already thinking about its next league commitment, which will be on the road against Dishelec 65 Viladecans, on Saturday, October 11 at 16:30 (Canary time). The island team is confident that the good work shown in this first match will serve as the basis for achieving its first victory of the season.
