The Real Club Náutico de Arrecife regatta team traveled to the island of Tenerife this past weekend, taking part in the third edition of the Las Teresitas International Optimist Regatta. A weekend of complicated conditions for the sailors, in which only three of the planned races could be held and the location of the race course had to be changed on the second day.
Lola Carrión was proclaimed the winner of the sub´11 female category of the Las Teresitas International Regatta. The Las Teresitas International Regatta featured the participation of 12 sailors from the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife, who were accompanied throughout the weekend by coaches Pablo Padilla and Hugo Robayna.
In the sub´13 category, Julián Suárez Sperner, Marta Martínez Alayón, Pelayo Sánchez Reguero, Gonzalo Presa Heredia, Álvaro Peñafiel Martínez, Valentina de la Hoz Chavez and Alfonso Garcías Cruz competed. In the sub´16 category, the club was represented by Carmen Presa Heredia, Anais Mestres Micieces, Martina Peñafiel Martínez and Luisa Lemes Márquez. And the expedition was completed with the participation of Lola Carrión Morales in the sub´11 category, being the youngest of the group at only 10 years old.
This is the only light sailing regatta in the Canary Islands that uses a beach as a base for launching boats into the water, and it had complicated conditions that forced a reduction in the number of planned races.
On Saturday, only one of the planned races could be held with a wind of 5-7 knots, and the wind increased on Sunday with an intensity of 7-13 knots, with two races being held. Lola Carrión took the victory in the sub´11 category, demonstrating her skill in the three races held throughout the weekend and always placing herself among the most outstanding boats in a competition that featured the participation of 82 sailors from Gran Canaria, Tenerife, La Palma, Lanzarote and the Basque city of San Sebastián.
In the sub´16 female category, Carmen Presa was on the verge of the podium and finally finished in fourth position. For her part, Anais Martínez was sixth in this same category and her teammate Martina Peñafiel finished in seventh position.
In the sub´13 female category, Marta Martínez occupied ninth place. And in the absolute general classification, Julián Suárez was classified in a more than meritorious ninth position and was fifth in the sub´13 male category.
