The Lanzarotean Lola Carrión has no ceiling this season in the optimist class, demonstrating in each of the races in which she participates her good work and her progression to position herself among the young promises of light sailing worldwide. The sailor from the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife traveled to Hungary to participate in the prestigious Balaton Camp, and once again shone at a high level. Lola Carrión qualified in third position in the general classification and was the best classified in the female under-13 category.
The Balaton Cup is one of the most outstanding international sailing training camps and clinics in Central Europe for the Optimist class, and it takes place in the waters of Lake Balaton, in Hungary. A freshwater venue globally recognized for its excellent conditions for light sailing.
Lola Carrión was accompanied during the competition by coach Alejandro Bethencourt, and was the only representative from Spain in the Balaton Cup. 116 sailors gathered for the three days of sailing, highlighting the presence of athletes from Hungary, Portugal, the United States, Ukraine, Germany, Greece, and Denmark, among others.
Finally, the meteorological conditions recorded on Lake Balaton only allowed for four races to be held, and from the outset, Lola Carrión positioned herself among the top classified. The Lanzarotean achieved a second position in the first heat and in the second she was forced to retire, diminishing her chances of fighting for the win. Lola Carrión recovered, achieving a partial victory in the third heat and a second place in the fourth.
A consistency that placed Lola Carrión in third position in the Balaton Camp of Hungary, finishing one point behind the second classified, the American Briggs Kossmann, and two points behind the winner, the Portuguese Guilherme Magalhaes. Furthermore, Lola Carrión won first place in the female under-13 category.
The president of the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife, Julio Romero, and the Board of Directors, wish to congratulate Lola Carrión for this new success in her sporting career, putting a brilliant final touch to the season. A campaign in which she qualified in fifth position in the Optimist European Championship, was champion of the Canary Islands, led the Canarian ranking achieving gold in the three races held, and was proclaimed champion of Spain in her category.
