Lola Carrión conquers the triumph in the Pel Escuder Optimist Trophy

The second test of the Canary Optimist Circuit had 16 sailors from the Royal Nautical Club of Arrecife

The bay of Santa Cruz de Tenerife hosted this past weekend a new edition of the Pel Escuder Trophy, which is part of the second race of the season of the Canary Optimist Circuit. The Real Club Náutico de Arrecife traveled to Tenerife with 16 sailors and 2 coaches, all of whom had a great performance. Lola Carrión took the victory in the Pel Escuder Trophy, and Alfonso Garcías and Luisa Lemes climbed to the podium in their respective categories.The optimist team of the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife traveled to the island of Tenerife to participate in the Pel Escuder – Naviera Armas Trophy, the second selective event of the season for the Spanish Championship and Cup. The expedition was made up of Lola Carrión, Leandro de la Hoz, Luisa Lemes, Alfonso Garcías, Gonzalo Presa, Julián Suárez, Fayna Tavío, Pelayo Sánchez, María Rizo, Julia López, Carmen Presa, Yeico Díaz, Santiago Bravo de Laguna, Valentina de la Hoz, Marta Martínez and Rosalía Lasso. And they were accompanied by coaches Carlos Hidalgo and Hugo Robayna.The Pel Escuder Trophy, organized by the Real Club Náutico de Tenerife, was marked by meteorological conditions, which prevented the celebration of the regattas planned for Saturday and Sunday due to lack of wind. On Friday, two of the three scheduled races could be held, which were sufficient for the Pel Escuder Trophy to be valid.

Lola Carrión starred in a brilliant opening day, winning the two races held in her competition group. Results that placed the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife sailor at the top of the podium in the overall standings of the Pel Escuder Trophy, also being the winner of the under-13 and under-16 female categories. 

In the under-16 male category, Alfonso Garcías took second place, after finishing Friday's races in fourth and fifth position in his group. And in the under-16 female category, Luisa Lemes took third place on the podium, with a fifth and a second position in the two races held. 

The Pel Escuder – Naviera Armas Trophy has been the second qualifying regatta of the Canary Optimist Circuit and counts towards the 2026 Canary Cup. After the Manolo Pazos Trophy and the Pel Escuder Trophy, the Canary Optimist Circuit will conclude next March with the celebration of the XI César Manrique Optimist Trophy, organized by the Real Club Náutico de Arrecife from March 6 to 8.
