The Lanzarote triathlete Lionel Morales continues to burn stages on his yellow brick road to the Paris Olympic Games. This Sunday he was proclaimed champion of Spain in duathlon in the Asturian town of Avilés. Morales led with some solvency his PTS2 group with a time of 1:09:26, ahead of Javier Vergara Rubio of AD Ibiza Half Triathlon and the independent Óscar Garro Antxia, in third place.

The triathlete from Conejero, who closed his ticket to the Paris 2024 Paralympic Games at the World Triathlon Para Championships in Malaga, arrived in Asturias "touched from his last competition in Australia and his passage through the championships held in Abu Dhabi and Davenport." Morales explains that his passage "through the Asturian race has been a real joy, with a lot of atmosphere in the historic center of Aviles but being somewhat lame from the physical point of view. I pushed in the first part and got a good advantage on the bike.

"In the second race I took it a little easier to avoid any injury. Now it's time to continue preparing for the great goal, which is the Paris Games. From now on, in June, we have the World Cup in Vigo and a world series in Swansea. Then comes the longed-for concentration in preparation for the Paris Olympic Games where I will compete on September 1," concludes the triathlete from Conejero.
