Lanzarote will once again be at the nerve center of international sailing this summer with the celebration of two consecutive events of the prestigious 52 SUPER SERIES circuit, considered the most important and competitive high-performance monohull championship in the world. The island will host the Marina Rubicón Lanzarote 52 SUPER SERIES Sailing Week, from July 20 to 24, and subsequently the Puerto Calero Lanzarote 52 SUPER SERIES Royal Cup, in August, becoming one of the few international destinations capable of hosting two events of the circuit in the same season.
This designation represents significant support for Lanzarote's strategy of positioning itself as a high-level sports destination and confirms, once again, the confidence of the 52 SUPER SERIES organization in the exceptional sailing conditions, organizational capacity, and quality of the island's nautical infrastructure. Likewise, beyond its sporting impact, these two events reinforce Lanzarote's strategy as an all-year-round active destination, demonstrating that it offers exceptional conditions for sailing 365 days a year and contributing to the de-seasonalization of nautical events.
Indeed, the 52 SUPER SERIES celebrates its fifteenth season this year as the absolute benchmark for professional grand prix sailing. The circuit brings together some of the world's best sailors, internationally renowned owners, and top-level competitive teams aboard the TP52s, boats considered by many to be the "Formula 1" of monohull sailing due to their technological sophistication, performance, and spectacular racing.
Being part of this calendar places Lanzarote alongside some of the most prestigious international sailing destinations that have hosted circuit events, such as Palma de Mallorca, Barcelona, Valencia, Cascais, Porto Cervo, Miami, Cape Town, or Saint-Tropez. A fleet of 13 TP52 boats is expected to participate in the two Lanzarote events, arriving on the island aboard a specialized cargo ship, reflecting the international dimension of a championship that mobilizes hundreds of athletes, technicians, owners, sponsors, and media.
The organization of two events in the same destination also represents a recognition of Lanzarote's organizational capacity and the quality of its nautical infrastructure. Both Marina Rubicón and Puerto Calero have top-tier facilities and extensive experience in organizing major international events, projecting the strength of the island's nautical offerings.
Added to this is its extraordinary media and sporting impact. The 52 SUPER SERIES attracts a high-net-worth profile linked to sport, sailing, innovation, and premium tourism. Owners, crews, sponsors, corporate guests, and specialized fans generate significant economic returns for the destination and contribute to reinforcing Lanzarote's image in strategically valuable international markets.
The arrival of these two events has been made possible thanks to the commitment of institutions and entities working to consolidate Lanzarote's international positioning as a sports destination of excellence. The support of the Cabildo de Lanzarote, through SPEL-Turismo Lanzarote and its sports tourism product “Lanzarote Sports Destination”, its Project Planning and Coordination area and the Canary Islands Development Fund (FDCAN), the Insular Sports Service of the Cabildo de Lanzarote and the Economic Promotion area, along with the Yaiza City Council and Promotur Turismo de Islas Canarias, has been fundamental in attracting an event that fully aligns with the island's external promotion strategy.
With the Marina Rubicón Lanzarote 52 SUPER SERIES Sailing Week and the Puerto Calero Lanzarote 52 SUPER SERIES Royal Cup, Lanzarote is preparing for a particularly significant summer for international sailing. Two top-category events, two top-tier venues, and the same shared vision: to continue consolidating the island as one of the best destinations in the world for sailing and organizing major nautical competitions at any time of the year.
