The great promises of European badminton will meet on the island of Lanzarote from November 29 to December 7, with the celebration of the U17 European Badminton Championship. This historic event for the island's sport has the support of the Cabildo of Lanzarote and the City Council of Arrecife, and the backing of the Higher Sports Council, with the Spanish Badminton Federation (FESBA) entrusting the Canary Islands Badminton Federation and the Auria Badminton Club with the organization of this important competition.
It will be the first time that Spain hosts the U17 European Badminton Championship, a competition that is held every two years. Previously, it has been held in countries such as Slovenia, Poland, the Czech Republic, Portugal, Turkey, Ireland, Belgium, and Lithuania, with the great promises of this sport concentrating this year on the island of Lanzarote.
The president of the Spanish Badminton Federation, Andoni Azurmendi, considers that "the support of the Cabildo of Lanzarote and the City Council of Arrecife have been key for the champions of the future to compete in Lanzarote, with the incentive that these European Championships are divided into the individual competition and the team competition, in which there is a great atmosphere."
The Sports Councilor of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Juan Monzón, assures that it is "great news for the island." "From the Island Sports Service, we have worked together with the federation, the Auria club, and the City Council of Arrecife to be able to host this important event. We demonstrated that we were capable of organizing the U23 Spanish Championship, and that we also have a large social mass and badminton lovers. I am completely convinced that it will be a resounding success," he asserted.
Azumendi also celebrates "the growth of badminton in the Canary Islands and specifically in Lanzarote, as well as the leap that it represents in the organization of events, after having hosted the U23 Spanish Championship and the Absolute CESA in 2024." Lanzarote will once again become the epicenter of international badminton from November 29 to December 7.
Lanzarote hosted the U23 Spanish Badminton Championship at the end of last November, a competition that took place at the IES Blas Cabrera Felipe facilities. An event that was awarded at the Sports Gala of the Cabildo of Lanzarote as the best sporting event of the year 2024.
