Lanzarote Raqueta Club shines in the Canary Islands School Championship U-15 and U-17 with 13 medals

The Lanzarote Raqueta Club traveled this weekend, from April 24 to 26, to San Juan de la Rambla (Tenerife) to participate in the Canary Islands School Championship in the U-15 and U-17 categories, achieving a notable performance with a total of 13 medals: 4 golds, 2 silvers, and 7 bronzes.

The expedition was made up of 17 athletes and 2 monitors, among whom were Samyra Méndez, Jorge Betancort, Atenea Morales, Aduén Betancor, Aday González, Gorka Miguens, Darío Hernández, Chanel Conti, Wenhao Jiang, Julen Inchaurbe, Marcos Vergés, Esmeralda Castillo, Manuel Cabrera, Airam Steux, Amanay Gómez, Indara Arrocha, Tomás Genovés and Inma Duarte.

In the Under-15 category, the Lanzarote club achieved three medals. Jorge Betancort stood out especially, who was proclaimed champion in men's singles after winning an demanding final against Javier Peña from Tenerife by 19-21, 21-12, and 21-14. Furthermore, he added another great performance in a very hard-fought final against Bruno Peralta from Fuerteventura (21-13, 6-21, and 21-17). For their part, in women's doubles, the pair formed by Esmeralda Castillo and Samyra Méndez won the bronze medal after falling in the semifinals against Nerea Infantes and Nerea Padrón (13-21 and 9-21).

In the Under-17 category, the Lanzarote Raqueta Club signed an outstanding performance. In mixed doubles, the pair composed of Atenea Morales and Jorge Betancort was proclaimed champion of the Canary Islands after defeating David Cortés and Silvia Hernández in the final by 21-11 and 21-19.

In men's doubles, Marcos Vergés and Eduardo Curbelo won the silver medal after a hard-fought final against Gerard Hernández and Diego Pérez (22-24 and 16-21), while Aduén Betancor and Aday Hernández obtained the bronze after falling in the semifinals (19-21 and 16-21).

In men's singles, Eduardo Curbelo also took gold after defeating Diego Pérez in the semifinals (21-19 and 21-13) and David Cortés in the final (21-8 and 21-8). Finally, Atenea Morales added a bronze in women's singles after an intense semifinal match against Silvia Hernández (21-14, 11-21, and 11-21).
