Lanzarote Puerto del Carmen falls defeated against Schar Colores Zaragoza

In the next match, Lanzarote Puerto del Carmen will visit Carballal, the last-placed team

Puerto del Carmen vs Zaragoza (6)

Lanzarote Puerto del Carmen was defeated again this Saturday at the Municipal Pavilion of Tías in the visit of Schar Colores Zaragoza (23-27) in a match corresponding to the eighth round of the women's División de Honor Oro.

Second consecutive loss for the squad managed by Jesús Casanova, who remain in thirteenth place in the standings after this defeat with a record of one win, one draw, and six losses in eight matches played. The Zaragoza team manages to escape the bottom of the table minimally and sits tenth with six points. The match started nine minutes late due to the delay of the refereeing pair's plane. Las Mañas started more plugged in. In contrast, Las Tiñoseras, with the absences of World Cup players from Paraguay, Brenda Torres and Dely Leiva, in addition to the unexpected absence of Lucía Olivier, took a few minutes to wake up.

Lucía Betancort's missile tied the game at three goals with just under eight minutes played. Even so, Puerto seemed to be drowning. Schar pressed on the ball's exit, frequently catching the black and gold defense retreating (4-7, 13:59), forcing the first timeout from a Jesús Casanova who was certainly desperate with his team's performance.

Made emerged in the game and prevented a greater rout. It was already clear that things weren't working. Puerto seemed knocked out and reached the final part of the first period six goals down (4-10)

It was the twenty-fourth minute when Puerto managed to score the first counter-attack goal, their specialty (5-11). The Zaragoza team called a timeout to give their players a breather. Puerto del Carmen went into halftime seven goals down after a horrific first half on both ends of the court (7-14).

Twenty-five seconds after the restart, Somogyi-Bakos scored for Zaragoza. Mónica Cabrera struck back on the fly, but the situation would have to change drastically for Puerto to get anything positive out of the match

The team from Zaragoza had smelled blood and, evidently, was taking advantage of the defensive weakness of the team from Tenerife (10-19, min. 5). Furthermore, around the ten-minute mark, Schar scored two goals in a row with Puerto's goal unguarded. The murmur in the stands grew, denoting a genuine slap of reality with the match seemingly decided with more than fifteen minutes left (14-24).

A controversial refereeing decision seemed to wake up the "tiñoseras" who scored three consecutive goals (17-24), forcing a timeout from the Zaragoza team. Mario Ortiz was not going to allow the home team to get back into the game. It seemed like something had changed, but it was too late and timid (19-25, min. 21:48).Casanova, desperate, switched to man-to-man defense on Martina Barboza. The improvement in the local defense prompted a new timeout from Aragon (20-25, min. 24:06)

Andrea Guerrero tried to carry the team on her shoulders, but Puerto missed two consecutive attacks that would have given them a lifeline. The defensive improvement came too late and, moreover, it didn't arrive hand-in-hand with the necessary offensive effectiveness. Casanova called a timeout (20-27, min. 27:25).

Not much else was going to happen, although, really, too little had happened during a game to learn from and to forget (23-27).

Mónica Cabrera became the top scorer of the match and of her team with seven goals. Lucía Betancort contributed another five. In the Aragonese team, two players scored five goals each, Martina Barboza and Romaysaa Latrache. In the next match, Lanzarote Puerto del Carmen will visit Carballal, the last-placed team. Both teams will fight to avoid becoming the last in the standings after the ninth matchday. It will be on December 6th at 8:15 PM at Pabellón Municipal Carballal in Vigo, Pontevedra
