Lanzarote Puerto del Carmen fell defeated this Saturday on Court B of CDM SIGLO XXI in their visit to Schar Colores Zaragoza (26-20) in a match corresponding to the twenty-first round of the Women's Gold Division of Honor.
With five matchdays left to play, the outlook becomes complicated for the 'tiñoseras' who continue to occupy the thirteenth position in the classification table with eleven points, already with their sights set only on Mislata, twelfth, with twelve points, but one game less than the 'lanzaroteñas'. Zaragoza, for its part, with this victory moves away from the dangerous places in the classification. They place tenth with fifteen points, the same as Lleida. All of this leaves, with five games ahead, Mislata, Puerto del Carmen and Carballal fighting to maintain the category.
Jesús Casanova's team started well, commanding the first half until the final minutes, when Zaragoza took a small lead before halftime (12-11).
In the second half the sky closed almost completely for the black and yellows. Zaragoza advanced the defense and with an individual mark on Dely Leiva dried up the tiñoseras. Given the forceful offensive drought, Casanova called a timeout ten minutes after the restart. It served little or nothing. The mañas had gone direct and Mario Ortíz had put a wall in their defense, leaving the tiñoseras with only four goals to their name after about twenty minutes of play in the second half. The final minutes lent themselves to cosmeticizing the scoreboard, the only option for the tiñoseras after a second half to forget that leaves permanence hanging by a thread and dependent on the performance of the Valencians from Mislata.
The local Maryanna Rafaela Rodrigues became the top scorer of the match with eight goals. In the black and gold ranks, Beatriz Masseu's six goals stood out.
For the Tiñosero coach, Jesús Casanova, “well, once again, a match typical of what we are doing away from home. We started relatively well, leading on the scoreboard, defending well, going out with balls on the counter and scoring goals. And, above all, defensively, we were well-positioned and defending. But well, with ten minutes left to finish the first half, we got stuck. The opponent, with a double pivot attack, achieved clear one-on-one situations and we couldn't stop them. Already in the second half, well, more of the same. It's true that we are very tight, that we are barely training with ten or eleven players. We cannot complete full training sessions because we don't have players. Between absences and injuries, that is punishing us a lot. We don't arrive in condition for the second halves. In terms of defense, we were not able to stop the opponent's ball circulation and, in attack, well, the same. It's clear that, physically, they beat us, I refer to the issue of contact, of the clash, toughness and there the match slipped away from us. There's nothing left but to keep rowing. This week we have Carballal, another direct rival. Fortunately, we have them at home. Let's see if we are able to train well this week, although I go back to the same thing, there's a lack of personnel to train. But well, this match has to be won no matter what. So that's what we're doing, forgetting this match and thinking about the next one,” concluded the coach of Puerto del Carmen.
With five matchdays left to play, Lanzarote Puerto del Carmen will return to competition next Saturday, March 28, at 6:00 p.m. at the Municipal de Tías, in a match where it is imperative to win against Carballal, last placed. The Galician team lost this week at the home of Vino Doña Berenguela Bm. Bolaños and closes the standings with nine points, two less than the "tiñoseras".
