The athlete Adriel Armijos, 17 years old, won the medal as the winner of the Spanish Powerlifting Championship held in Seville on July 6. This sport, also called powerlifting, consists of three weightlifting exercises (squat, bench press and deadlift) and with three opportunities for each of them.

Armijos has stood out in the SunJunior -83 kg category by lifting a total of 648 kg between the three exercises. Also, in deadlift he managed to lift 265 kg and in squat he took the silver with 232.5. The gold came with the bench press, breaking the Spanish record with a total of 150.5 kg.

The conejero has been practicing this sport for two years and so much effort, he says, has been worth it. "I am quite happy that the fruits of so much time training are finally coming to light because winning the national championship and securing that place for the European Championship is something that my coach and I have had in mind for a long time," says the athlete.

The athlete trains three hours a day four days a week and explains that "powerlifting is a sport in which it is essential to have patience and discipline since any change in your daily routine can affect your performance and mentally that is very hard."

After the good results, the conejero has obtained the direct ticket to the European Championship that will take place in the Czech Republic from October 6 to 12 of this year. "I am very eager to live this international experience for the first time and with the weight on top of knowing that I will be representing Spain and trying to get on a podium," says Armijos.
