The former president of Zonzamas Plus Car Lanzarote Juan Ramón de León Tejera, in office between 1985 and 2002, passed away on Sunday night, as reported this Monday by the Lanzarote club on its social networks.
Born in San Bartolomé, De León Tejera dedicated his life to handball, first as a player in the early days of the club in the 70s, then as a coach and youth trainer, and later leading CB Zonzamas in "one of its most brilliant stages, in which it consolidated itself as a benchmark for island and national handball".
During his presidency, Zonzamas sneaked into the national scene and with a golden generation achieved three consecutive Spanish championships, from 1997 to 1999 in different categories (women's cadet in 1997 and women's youth in 1998 and 1999).
"From here we send our sincere condolences to his family and friends. Juan Ramón's legacy will always remain in the history of our club and Lanzarote handball. Rest in peace", they say from the entity.
