Lanzarote chess meets after two years

The Island's clubs are summoned this Friday the 25th at the Sociedad Democracia de Arrecife, and the meeting could be historic, as the creation of the Island Federation is on the table.

José Miguel González, head of the Island Chess Delegation in Lanzarote, has called the Chess clubs in Lanzarote to a meeting that will take place this coming Friday the 25th at 7:30 p.m., at the Sociedad Democracia Arrecife facilities.

The meeting could have a "historic character", since it is the first face-to-face meeting held after Lorenzo Lemaur left the Island Delegation, in May 2020, due to "differences and lack of trust with the president of the Canarian Chess Federation".

On the meeting's agenda, José Miguel González has included as a highlight the "need to launch an Island Federation in Lanzarote".

For the interim Island Delegate, while the ordinary elections of the Canarian Federation are held, which must be held within this year 2022, "it is necessary to overcome the limits of a delegation to be able to cover the volume of current demand." "Especially considering the current situation of the Federation and the slow or scarce operability that it entails, fundamentally in financial matters," he adds.

The creation of the Lanzarote Island Chess Federation, within the Canarian Federation, implies a modification of article 2 of its statutes, which can only be done by agreement of an Extraordinary General Assembly, after a file with a favorable report from the General Directorate of Sports of the Government of the Canary Islands.

The other topics to be discussed at the meeting are: The "Arrecife Chess 2022" Project, sponsored by the Department of Sports of the Arrecife City Council; the Individual Island Championships Absolute, Female, Veterans and Youth, with the dates and format; and the Island Team Championship, qualifying for the Canary Islands Championship, which will take place from June 16 to 19 in Vecindario, Gran Canaria.
