The Department of Sports of the Cabildo of Lanzarote closed, this Saturday, May 4, the XXII edition of the Canarian ball tournament 'Abuelos conejeros', with a final event in the municipal tent of San Bartolomé.
The president of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, Oswaldo Betancort, and the Minister of Sports, Juan Monzón, accompanied by representatives of the Island Corporation such as the Minister of Seniors, Nori Machín, presented the awards to the winners of this edition, which in the case of the women's category was the team 'Huerta Vieja' from the municipality of Yaiza, while in the men's category it was 'Teguise' from the same municipality that gives it its name.
The president of the Island Corporation, Oswaldo Betancort, said that this tournament "represents a very positive combination of sport, health and integration". "It is a pride to see how representatives of the seven municipalities of the island come together in this veteran tournament and practice one of the most important native sports of our island and archipelago," added the president, who also highlighted "the growth in the number of participants compared to the previous year".
The Minister of Sports, Juan Monzón, celebrated "the success of this edition of the Canarian ball tournament". "I want to thank the staff of the Island Sports Service for having been able to organize each of the days of this tournament, which was attended by a hundred more participants than the previous year," he said.
In addition to the award winners mentioned above, the second classified in the women's category was the team 'Las Mezcladas', from the municipality of Tinajo, while in the men's category the runner-up was 'Hornillo', from Tías.
The third classified in the women's category was 'Las Atrevidas', from the municipality of Arrecife, and for 'Los Rostros' in the men's category, belonging to the municipality of Tinajo. Finally, 'La Mareta' from Teguise was in fourth place in the women's category, the same position as 'La Santa', from Tinajo, in the men's category.
