Fourth place for Miguel Barbado from Lanzarote with the Canary Islands in the Spanish Championship

The Auria Badminton Club player was part of the Canary Islands National Team

Miguel Barbado at the Spanish National Team Championship.

The Spanish Championship of Absolute Autonomous Teams, held this past weekend in Tenerife, featured representation from the Auria Badminton Club. Miguel Barbado was selected to represent the Canary Islands in the team tournament that took place in the town of El Sauzal and participated in the four matches played by the Canary Islands team. 

The participation of the Canary Islands began with the duel against Andalusia, in which Miguel Barbado teamed up with José Molares in the men's doubles. The Canary Islands pair played a tough match, needing five sets to resolve the clash, which was decided on the side of the Andalusians by 11-10, 9-11, 11-9, 9-11 and 7-11, after almost 52 minutes of play. 

On Saturday, Miguel Barbado played mixed doubles with Victoria Castro in the matches against the Valencian Community and Aragon, and also played the men's singles against the Aragonese. The day ended with the victory in mixed doubles against Javier Coronas and Cristina Roig (11-4, 11-9, 11-2), and the victory of Miguel Barbado in the men's singles against Simón Moraz (11-8, 11-4, 11-5). 

The Canary Islands concluded its participation in the Spanish Championship of Absolute Autonomous Teams with the match against Madrid, with Miguel Barbado competing in mixed doubles with Victoria Castro and playing the men's singles against Ernesto Baschwitz (10-11, 10-11, 11-8, 2-11). With three defeats and a victory against Aragon, the Canary Islands took fourth place in the national team tournament. 

Miguel Barbado was not the only member of the Auria Badminton Club who was present this past weekend at the Spanish Championship of Absolute Autonomous Teams. Jorge Pérez was part of the assembly team of the pavilion and development of the competition, and Oliver Gausmann was as a court referee of the tournament.
