The Baja España Aragón 2026 will not be able to be held finally due to the forest fires affecting the area, a decision adopted by the authorities that has forced the cancellation of one of the most prestigious events on the international rally calendar.
Among the participants was the Lanzarote native Alexis Romero, who was returning to the Aragonese event with Álvaro Valduérteles at the wheel of the Herrator Inzane 901, defending the colors of the Escudería Lanzarote in a competition counting towards the FIA World Cup and the European Baja Cup.
Before the suspension was announced, the team had successfully completed a day of testing at the Masía Pelarda circuit, in Teruel, where they verified that the vehicle was ready to face a test marked by the demanding and tough course. Romero wanted to thank the work done by MI Motorsport, highlighting the team's professionalism throughout the preparation.
The news was a hard blow for the Lanzarote pilot, who had been preparing his return to the Baja España Aragón for months.
"Personally, it's a very big bummer, with everything planned for the three days and having to change plans, but I perfectly understand the reasons, as I was really looking forward to being at this event again," lamented Alexis Romero.
The athlete also expressed his recognition for the effort made by the technical team and the organization of the event.
"I feel very bad for all the effort MI Motorsport has made to be here, for the treatment and the well-done work, and also for the organization, but it is a totally understandable decision by the authorities."
Romero also took the opportunity to send a message of support to those working to extinguish the fires. "Much encouragement and all my admiration to those who are fighting the fires."
Far from giving up, the team is already thinking about its next commitment. After the suspension of the Baja España Aragón, Alexis Romero, Álvaro Valduérteles, and the entire team will head to Zaragoza to compete in the Cierzo Rally Ejército de Tierra on September 4 and 5.
The Herrator Inzane 901 will arrive at the event completely revised after the tests carried out in Teruel, with the aim of fighting for a good result in a competition that presents itself as the new challenge of the season for the Lanzarote team.
