The Insular Federation of Latin Sailboats of Lanzarote closed the 2025 season this Saturday with the celebration of the Novice Skippers Championship and the subsequent trophy presentation ceremony. A day marked by intense wind, which forced the Regatta Committee to take extreme precautions to ensure the start and safety of the eight participating boats.
The strong wind prevailing since the early hours of the day conditioned the initial planning of the Novice Skippers Championship. The Regatta Committee opted to wait and study different options before selecting the most suitable location to start the race. Finally, it was determined that the regatta course would be located in front of the Cabildo of Lanzarote, an area to which the boats moved, not without facing some twists and turns typical of the inexperience characteristic of a competition for new skippers.
With some delay, and once conditions stabilized, the official start was given. From the first minutes of the race, the Fayna, skippered by Marcos Peraza, took the lead, maintaining a steady course despite the demanding wind. Very close behind was the Furia, with Abián Delgado at the helm, ready to seize any opportunity to close the gap.
On the first rounding of the buoy, within a course composed of four turning points, the lead of the race remained unchanged. The CID Náuticos, helmed by Juan Manuel Pérez, was then consolidating a solid third position. This situation was repeated at the second buoy, with the first three boats marking differences from the rest of the fleet.
However, before reaching the third turning point, the day's main change occurred. The Bernasan, with Josué Cedrés as skipper, managed to overtake the CID Náuticos and secure third place. The move, executed with precision before the tacking maneuver at the buoy, allowed them to maintain that position until the end of the race
El Fayna crossed the finish line with a few seconds ahead of Furia, certifying its victory and heading back to the Insular Center for Nautical Sports. After all the boats arrived, the participants moved ashore for the official season-closing ceremony.
The Insular Federation of Latin Sailboats of Lanzarote organized a reception to honor the winners of the season in the 5-meter category, as well as to recognize the members of the podium of the Novice Skippers Championship.
With this sporting and festive event, the Lanzarote Insular Federation of Latin Sailboats concludes the 2025 season. The entity closes a year of intense activity and begins to work enthusiastically on the organization of the next campaign, with the commitment to continue promoting the tradition of Latin sailboats on the island.
