Mati Drummond Deeves and Alejandro Medina Lorenzo, judokas from the Costa Teguise Judo Club, have won medals this weekend at the 2022 Junior Canary Islands Championship held at the Martín Freire in the Gran Canaria Sports City.

Mati Drummond won a bronze medal after falling to the second-placed Nira Rodríguez, from the Gran Canaria team of Las Nieves. Martina Martín, from Granadilla, Tenerife, finally took the gold.

To Mati Drummond's well-deserved medal was added the great silver medal of Alejandro Medina. The judoka from Conejero fell in the final against Alejandro Chávez from the Granadilla club in Tenerife. On the way to the grand final, in the semi-finals, he got rid of the judoka Pablo González from Gran Canaria.

The team of judokas from the Costa Teguise Judo Club brings a good loot to Lanzarote with both medals and, above all, a good load of enthusiasm to continue working, despite the potholes, one of the best youth teams in judo in the Canary Islands.

Alejandro Ramírez, technical director of the Conejero club, thanked "the dedication of the two judokas from the club who come with a medal around their necks from the Junior Canary Islands Championship".

"It is yet another sign that we are working on the right track and that the Costa Teguise Judo Club continues to leave the good name of Costa Teguise and Lanzarote in a good place, wherever it goes, based on dedication, talent and sacrifice. Furthermore, recognitions like these are a good boost to continue growing as a club and continue to believe with our eyes closed in the path we started years ago and that has turned the Costa Teguise Judo Club into what it is today, one of the best clubs both in the Canary Islands and nationally," he added.
