Lanzarote Puerto del Carmen achieved this Saturday, at the Municipal de Titerroy, the Copa de Canarias División de Honor Oro women's title after drawing twenty-six all against the local team Cicar Lanzarote Ciudad de Arrecife, making use of the advantage obtained in the first leg held in Tías last Wednesday (25-24).
Thirty seconds into the match, Carla De Marco opened the scoring. San José equalized on the next play, with both teams aware that it was just another preseason test seasoned with the Copa de Canarias title.
Both teams started the match intensely, demonstrating in the first few minutes that they are just a few days away from the league opener. A goal by Cristina Mazaira into an empty net gave the aurinegras the first lead (2-4, min 5).
San José reacted, spurred on by their home crowd, but the tiñoseras were well-positioned on the capital's court. A timeout by the locals hinted at a spirited Puerto (5-8, min. 12). The Arrecife team scored after the break and managed two consecutive goals after a visitor exclusion. After a carousel of substitutions, Casanova gave his team a breather with his first timeout (8-9, min. 19:30).
San José pushed, but Puerto didn't ease off the gas. The final minutes of the first half served to confirm the tiñoseras' good performance until halftime (10-14).
Britos adjusted the pieces during the break, but Puerto didn't slow down (12-16, min. 3:39). Several missed attacks by the aurinegras allowed the locals to reduce the deficit on the Arrecife scoreboard until a sixteen all tie in the 8:27 minute.
A six-zero run by San José was only broken by Bia Masseu with a courageous goal. The exchange of goals and lead changes was to be a constant in the second half. Casanova called for another timeout with a twenty all tie (19:05). Far from clarifying the situation, the passing minutes perpetuated the equality. Najara Gabladón galloped on the counter-attack after a steal to score and provoke another timeout from Carlos Britos (21-22, min. 23:51).
The match was going crazy when it should have had more sense. The exchange of goals continued and, with little more than two minutes left, Carla De Marco scored. Britos called for a new timeout in desperation in search of options to come back (24-25). San José tied from the corner, but the seconds fell like heavy slabs. Carla Rivas scored in the last minute. The home team managed to tie the match, but the Copa de Canarias traveled to La Tiñosa, allowing the tiñoseras to face the start of the league with the first official title in their pocket.
CB Lanzarote Puerto del Carmen will have its season premiere for 2026-2027 in Madrid against Ikasa Boadilla. It will be next Saturday, September 26, at 5:45 PM (peninsular time). The first home game for the tiñoseras will be on the second matchday, Saturday, October 3, at 7:30 PM, at the Municipal de Tías against Caja Rural Aula Valladolid, and the first league derby against San José will be played to close the first round at the beginning of 2027 in Titerroy, with the return leg being played on the last matchday of the league at the Municipal de Tías, in May of next year.
