Balonmano Lanzarote Ciudad de Arrecife defeats the leader and will have to keep waiting

San José Obrero prevailed by 34 to 31 over Valinox Novás and continues to occupy the third position

Balonmano Lanzarote Ciudad de Arrecife had on Saturday afternoon the complicated task of hosting the leader of group A of the Primera Nacional Masculina, with both teams starring in a great match on the 40x20. The Titerroy team, with a good second half, defeated Valinox Novás by 34 to 31, a result that allows them to remain tied on points with Balonmano Ingenio, a team that did not fail on the penultimate day of the regular phase. 

The match began with Balonmano Lanzarote Ciudad de Arrecife leading on the scoreboard, with Mauro Jaureguiberry and Declerck Sibo scoring the first two goals of the match for the locals. Valinox Novás did not take long to turn the situation around, and with two quick counterattacks the Galician team obtained a two-goal advantage. An advantage that was neutralized with the goals of Declerck Sibo and Abián Martín (7-7). 

The tie was maintained throughout the development of the first half, with a Valinox Novás that carried the initiative on the scoreboard. In the last play of the period, Rafa Robayna stole a ball and scored into an empty goal, establishing the tie at 17 goals with which the end of the first 30 minutes was reached. 

El Balonmano Lanzarote Ciudad de Arrecife had an explosive start to the second half. The goals by Oscar Silva (2), Declerck Sibo and Ángel Iglesias, gave the locals a four-goal lead. A lead that rose in the 10th minute to five goals, forcing the coach of Valinox Novás to request a timeout (25-20). 

In just six minutes, Valinox Novás was again leveling the match. The turnovers were marking the development of the game for the locals, and a quick Martín Dávila mounted quick counterattacks to level the score (27-27). The reaction of Balonmano Lanzarote Ciudad de Arrecife was immediate, achieving a 5-0 partial score and that gave the team a five-goal lead with eight minutes remaining until the end. 

Balonmano Lanzarote Ciudad de Arrecife knew how to stop Valinox Novás' attempts to get back into the match, with the clash being decided by a goal from Joel Armas from the left wing. With a score of 34 to 31, the match ended, adding two important points in the fight to dispute the promotion phase. 

At the end of the match, all eyes turned to the Pedro Padilla Municipal Pavilion where Balonmano Ingenio played its match against Lirón Teucro 80 Aniversario. The victory of the Gran Canarians by 27 to 25 allows them to maintain second position by having the goal average won against Balonmano Lanzarote Ciudad de Arrecife. On the last matchday of the regular phase, San José Obrero visits Culleredo and Ingenio visits Automanía Luceros.
