Competition weekend experienced in Tenerife by the members of the Auria Badminton Club, participating in a new edition of the Absolute Badminton Championship of the Canary Islands, which took place in the town of El Sauzal, in Tenerife. A regional tournament in which the Lanzarote club won two medals in the doubles category. Miguel Barbado and Zeneida Ortiz won silver in mixed doubles, and Zeneida with Ana María Mesa climbed the podium again to win the bronze medal in women's doubles.
The Auria Badminton Club competition team that traveled to Tenerife last weekend was made up of 7 players, and Miguel Barbado performed the duties of coach, in addition to competing in the doubles category. The expedition was made up of Zhi Tao Li, Adrián Carabali, Zeneida Ortiz, Ana María Mesa, Alberto Cabrera, Oliver Gausmann and Miguel Barbado.
The couple formed by Miguel Barbado and Zeneida Ortiz won the silver medal in the mixed doubles category. In the group stage, the Auria Badminton Club players achieved victory against Wilmer González and Marta Morales (21-14, 21-19) and Óscar Rostro and Elisa Rostro (21-9, 22-20). In the semi-final round they defeated Marcos Fajardo and Laura Martínez (21-16, 21-16). And in the grand final, they fell in a very close match against José Morales and Victoria Castro (19-21, 23-21, 17-21).
The other great news of the weekend was starred by Ana María Mesa and Zeneida Ortiz in the women's doubles category. They began the group stage with an important victory against Ainara González and Alejandra Reyes (21-17, 21-15), and in the second match they fell against Sulimar Cabrera and Laura De León (9-21, 14-21). These results made it possible for the Auria Badminton Club couple to win the bronze medal.
After participating in the Absolute Badminton Championship of the Canary Islands, the competition team of the Auria Badminton Club is preparing for the next event on the calendar, scheduled for the weekend of November 2 and 3 with the TOP TTR El Rosario.
